You Have 30 Seconds...!

So your house in on fire…you have 30 seconds to grab what you can before you have to run outside. What do you grab??? Do you grab useful things, valuable things, or keepsakes? Well I found this website and it is interesting to see what an individual would grab with limited time…What would you save?

I will compose my picture of things soon :)

New goal:

Blog at least for 5 minutes everyday...

I want to have something to share/look back upon/keep good ideas in one spot and since it is easier to put pictures on a blog rather than in a journal...a new blog promise has been born :)

Also, now that I am an official teacher with a classroom, key, teaching partner, and teacher dreams, I want to put cool ideas :)

PuZzLeS!!!

I have decided that I am 1/4 8 years old, 1/2 21 years old, and 1/4 89 years old.

My young 8 year old self comes out when I want to do something fun, like race my sister to the car, pedel really fast on the carts and skate through the grocery aisles, or eat ice cream for dinner.

My 21 year old self, does the grown up things she needs to, CAN eat ice cream for dinner, can do crazy fun pranks on friends, or take road trips with sisters/friends.

And now my 89 year old self. Well I knit (not nearly as well as my younger or older sister but I can whip out a pretty mean scarf :) I am planning on learning to sew sweet things for my niece (again not as good as my older and younger sister or amazing mama!) I love to garden, go to the farmers market and then can, dry, and preserve yummy foods for the winter like in Little House on the Prairie. But the most grandma-ish thing that I do...I do puzzles. And not only do I do puzzles, but my friend and I (Amanda) FRAME OUR PUZZLES AND HANG THEM AROUND THE HOUSE!!! We have accomplished three puzzles, framed them, and hung them around the house. Even more impressive, our photomosaic Van Gogh Starry Night puzzle (Wicked hard by the way!!!) we hung a museum light above it!

But onto the reason for this post:

I started a new puzzle, a 1000 piece puzzle, and my table is too small. I need a new puzzle table. A big one, with a wide smooth space, so that I can do my grandma-ish puzzles without worrying about pieces falling off the sides (which occurs often). So when I have my own place, I may possibly have a puzzle room, or at least, just an awesome puzzle table :)

Stop Waiting

It is important to enjoy the moment in your life that you are in. This is something that I will never master, just continue to work on for my life! Being content is so hard, we are constantly being told by that if you just get that promotion, that car, that job, that amount of money, you will be happy. But that is not true, not in the least. Being content is about being happy with what you have, where you are at, and who you are with. It doesn't mean you have to be set with what have, you can still work hard and want to do better in your life.

Also, nothing, nada, nilch, zero (except for Jesus) is perfect...so waiting for perfect in the world is a forever game.

I think I should get this verse tattooed on my arm so that I don't forget it! Or maybe just on my foot...ideas? Or i could just be chill and make it as a poster and put it on my door...but that is too easy!

Well as Glozel says 'over and out!'

No matter how old, busy, or grown up I get...

I hope I never forget to drop what I do and do something fun. To think of something that would be "yumbo in my tumbo" (credit to Amanda Lacey Bates' French Teacher :)and to run across town and get it (aka Greek Fries...if you haven't had any, get some ASAP!!! :) Even after getting those delicious fries, to drive aimlessly to find The Castle (Stadium High School) and look at the beauty of a building, out of place in Downtown Tacoma, yet seamlessly still fitting for the area. Even though I have work to do, lessons to plan, papers to correct, papers to write, laundry to do, or whatever else this life demands of me, I pray that no matter how old I get, no matter how busy I am, no matter how 'grown up' I am, I will every once-in-a-while (hopefully more often than not) drop it all and be spontaneous, adventurous, or whatever the heck I want to be other than a robot to a demanding culture.

it is here...s-n-o-w!

Snow...

Just the word makes me happy. Say 'snow' to me on a sad day and my first thought will be, 'Where! Here?! is snow coming, are we going to the mountains?!" I mean think about it, snow sounds like a lot of other good words
Snuggle
Snuffleupagus
hmmm, okay so I can only think of two words that snow sounds like but it makes all these happy feelings inside of me :)

And it isn't just how snow looks, how it drapes the entire world in a beautiful, pure, innocent frosting of white, it isn't how though it looks perfect untouched, it is still amazing seeing scattered footprints from kids playing with their parents, to animals running through it, to college students making snow angels, it isn't that is creates a silent beauty that mutes the sound of the world, it is the fact that weather you like it or not, you are forced to slow down. It becomes accetable to go outside and play, no matter how old you are. People do not speed to work, they take their time, being safe and cautious. The world understands if you are late or cannot come to work, it is rather, 'take your time, get here when you can safely'. Yes it does cause hiccups in traffic, in your so busy, overscheduled, hectic, well thought out plans but you know what, for one day or two or even three, take the time to enjoy the simple gift that you were given. Yes it is cold, and wet and can get dirty, but hey snow doesn't come that often, enjoy it while it is here.

i dare you...

Go ahead, I dare you...

to be different
to stand out
to not change when others are around
to live outside of the box
to not care
to live
to just be

Trying to be someone else is a waste of who YOU are

He...

There once was a girl named Katie,

some would consider her a lady,
she liked herself, most of the time,
but other times wished she could change her mind,
she thinks quite a bit about things,
that makes her want to sing,
or sometimes those thoughts
create a longing sought
a sought of a place and a time and a being
when all she could do was just
B
E
without care or concern for others
except the One that created her in her mothers
My must these worries roll so in my head?
why must these feelings keep me in bed?
Why can't the Son just shine through me?
Oh because I am to busy being just
M
E
Let him who created, formed, and saved
be the center of my focus, my heart, my way paved
Trust Him with my worry, cares, and tears
because He alone will catch all of my fears.

Slacklining!!!

Slacklining....an amazing activity where an individual walks across an inch wide piece of webbing that is strung between two trees. Of course this may sound simple but they you can add in jumping, turning, bending, and all sorts of other tricks. This photo was on Hannah's 18th Birthday where we braved the weather and setup the slackline in the park in-between rain showers. We had an awesome time of slacklining, playing frisbee and of course, jumping pictures :) If only everyday could be filled with such fun! But alas, back to the real world of to-do lists and un-fun stuff. But I am working on at least once everyday, to do something that I truly enjoy, even for a few minutes, because life is to short to be full of dumb stuff...you must someday just jump around, even if it is just on a little piece of rope between two trees :)

WORLD NUTELLA DAY!!!

Thankfully I have friends looking out for me to let me know that today, February 5th, is World Nutella Day! I didn't know such a glorious day existed! Well considering the time of the day, I just wanted to quickly blog on the actual day but will be able to pull together a better post for tomorrow! My favorite way to eat nutella...would have to be from a jar, with a spoon, and a baguette. I survived on just this on my study abroad in Italy. Also crepes with banana and nutella are also quite wonderful. :) And just so everyone knows, unlike Europe where nutella is everywhere, Argentina has a no nutella!!! Even though Nutella.com says there is some there was only a few small jars in a single store in what seemed like all of Buenos Aires!

To the left is a kilo of nutella that I packed all the way from Italy!

Penguins here I come...!

January 5th is the day I leave to go to the end of the world...Antarctica! My j-term trip this year is to Argentina, Patagonia, and Antarctica to study Environmental Literature. Yeah I know, and English class that goes to Antarctica? Does that really count for credit? Well let me tell you, I have read quite a few books, parts of books, and articles regarding Antarctic explorers such as Shackleton, travelers in Patagonia, and of course Eva Peron! With the recent cold snap in the Northwest, I am questioning why I would I pay to go to a freezing place? I am trying to ignore this fact and am focusing on tango, Mt. Fitzroy, albatross, whales, and penguins! Anyway with my trip to portland this weekend I will be stocking up on socks, under armor, and many other warm layers :) So because finals are done I now hope to pick up the basic travelers spanish so that I am not an ignorant American...but we'll see how much I can learn and retain :)

Dead Week

2008-12-02.jpg

So as you can tell it is DEAD WEEK!!! Which in reality means nothing and it is just a lie that schools tell us to try and keep us calm so that we do not pull our hair out :) So I really should be finishing a paper and I will but I need a moment of random typing that is not academic, not graded, and just for fun! So it is wednesday and in less than a week I will be home with my family with a great deal less to do and what I do have to do will be fun such as packing for my amazing trip to ANTARCTICA!!! Yeah it will be pretty sweet. So I am working on being positive, productive, and prayerful and hopefully the combination of these things with a boatload of God I will make it through this semester!

Ready, Set, Run!!!

Where to begin...School is crazy busy and it seems that when one thing get crossed off my mental and actual to do list, at least two more are added on! But that is life isn't it? Well as for my title, I will be running (hopefully :) ) a 5k with my friend Kellianne. We have both be trying to train in some sense, but it is harding than you think to find 30 minutes to go to the gym, workout with so much on your mind, then go home and shower and begin to climb Mt. Homework. And I really only like to workout in the evening because attempting to redo my hair halfway through the day seems like a waste. But evenings are when all the fun activities are! But life is life and I am trying my hardest to enjoy every minute of it because I will only have that day once. Today I was happy to see Canada Geese flying and honking! It amazes me how they know the formation to fly in, even though the ones I saw were slightly off. :) And yes, I learned today that they are not Canadian Geese but Canada Geese, not sure why but my friends were very insistent of this in our chemistry lab so I will accept it. I need sleep so toodaloo!

October

So a month has gone by of school already and I can't believe how much stuff I have to do! Things just keep adding on to my list and I have tried to promise myself that I wouldn't say yes to anything anybody wanted me to do....but, that hasn't been going to well :) But anyway, I am way excited for tomorrow because at 2pm, I am going to Empty Bowls! If you don't know what that is, basically artists from all over donate bowls they made and people can go in, pick out a sweet homemade bowl for only $10 and then you get a bowl of soup! The money goes to support food banks and food assistance. It is an awesome program and you should totally support it!!! So, my next goal is to train for the 5k that I am doing in November with my friend Kellianne. I keep thinking that if I force myself to run in an organized running program, then maybe I will grow to love running because that would be awesome!!! Alright, well over and out, gonna work on my to do list :)

Italia...The Countdown has begun...

14_26_4---Trevi-Fountain--Rome--Italy_web.jpg

Well, it is Tuesday night and we are now T minus 5 days until I will be leaving for Italy! It has been difficult to squish a month's worth of stuff into one bag but hey, I am making it work. I am now going to make this blog into my Italy blog and will try to post new things about my trip a few times a week... depending on internet availability and time!

Guess Who...?

Do you want to know who has the greatest 22 year old sister ever??????? I am that's who! Not only is Gretchen an awesome role model and an inspiration to everyone she meets, but she sends the best packages one a month to her little sister in college even though she is soooo busy rockin the world! I don't know how she finds the time! I try and send stuff but never seem to find anything cool! How does she do it all! It just blows my mind and when I tell anyone about my older sister, she they are just kind of awed by all that she has done and is doing. So Gretchen, since you are mostly the only one who reads my blogs, This is totally a thank you for the package and you just being you!!!

Pacific Lutheran University!

Well, I have now been a Lute for about a week so far! I moved in last thursday with my roommate Kelsey and our room is pretty much the best on the hall even though we got jipped with one of the smallest rooms in Harstad! Here are a few pictures of my dorm room! I love it, it is awesome just chilling in the room, put-zing on homework and watching tv.

Tuesday was awesome because I played in a pickup of Ultimate Frisbee!!! There were a bunch of guys and a few girls and we rotated in and out after a few points. All of them were really nice and taught me the rules of the game which isn't to complicated but there is a lot of running, which I haven't done since tennis last spring!

Classes are going pretty good, there is a lot of reading so far though. Religion, Ecology, and Women's and Genders Studies are going to be a bit of work but my National Parks class isn't going to be to hard because it is my freshman class and the teacher is pretty fun.

I am so excited for Italy, though of course kind of nervouse but since I haven't really traveled anywhere this will be my first real trip so it will be cool. Plus I don't really have to worry about food because I love pasta, bread, and pizza which Italy is in no shortage of! I am going to find out what the trip plan is today so I will deep you updated!

My On the Road trip last Saturday was great! We went Rockclimbing at Exit 38. Here are some more pics! I climbed a 5.10B Which is my personal best so far. There was another rock that I tried but I couldn't finish it because I was tired, it was the last one I tried, and because I don't have as much upper body strength as some of the other guys. So I banged up my knee with some bruises and scapes but it looks pretty cool!

So sorry about the pics not being in the right place, they won't go where I want them to!:(

Enjoy and there should be more to come if I find the time!
